How to Stay Energized as an Operator on Call

Summary: Working a nine-to-five job on a regular basis can be tiring if you do not take the steps to care for yourself.

If you hold a position working in an office, you may have felt fatigued and unable to go through the entire day. Working in an office is not necessarily difficult but working in one for multiple hours on a consistent basis can eventually lead to unexpected tiredness.

Working at the top of your game and pushing your abilities requires you to take care of your body and mind.

Eat Balanced Meals

When you are working long hours, one of the last things you want to worry about is what you will be eating. It is far too easy to reach for quick meals, such as fast food or microwaveable meals. These will save you time but are not the most nutritious, as many lack the vitamins and nutrients our bodies need to keep us awake and energized. Snacks, such as chips, cookies, and soda, are also dangerous to munch on while you work.

Rather than reaching for a protein bar or skipping breakfast altogether, have a hearty and healthy meal that will get you ready for the long day ahead.

Take Walks

If you work at a desk and spend many hours in a seated position, your muscles may eventually start to feel tight and you may even find yourself losing concentration. To combat physical and mental fatigue, consider taking a five-minute walk break every hour to get up, stretch your arms and legs, and walk around. Clear your mind so you can be fresh when you sit back down.

Sleep Well

A crucial component for anyone seeking sustainable, long-term improvement needs to get enough sleep. A professional athlete wishing to compete with the best and continue to improve their skills needs to sleep to allow their bodies and minds to rest and recharge. A solid night’s rest can leave one feeling rejuvenated, alert, happy, and ready to tackle whatever comes their way.
